Charging crystals is a lot like cleansing them, but instead of clearing negative or stale energy, we are filling them up to the brim with the good stuff! The techniques between the two are also similar and oftentimes identical. The difference is the intention you put behind it.
Moonlight
I am sure you have seen those “Sorry I can’t, I’m charging my crystals!” memes, mugs and t-shirts. By far the most popular way of charging crystals, moonlight is one of the most powerful and simple ways to fire them up. On a full moon, set them out on a windowsill, table, or on the ground outside where they can get bathed in the moonlight. Then, take them inside in the AM fully charged! It’s okay if it’s cloudy, the energy is still the same. Pro tip: pick a moon phase that resonates with the energy that you want to imbue in the crystals, and charge them in that phase.
Sunlight
A lot like charging with moonlight, charging with sunlight infuses with light and “warms up” our stones with the fiery energy of the sun. Set them out on a windowsill, table, or on the ground outside where they can get that sun! **Alert! Some crystals are sensitive to light and heat, so please do some quick research to make sure you don’t wreck those precious jewels. Some examples of crystals that are sensitive to sunlight are Kunzite, Labradorite, Lapis Lazuli, Lepidolite, Malachite, Moldavite.
Energy / Reiki
You can use a simple visualization method to recharge the energy in your crystals. First, ground yourself in whatever way feels best for you. Then, hold your stone and visualize your hands filling with bright white light.
Have the light then envelop the stone and feel it growing with light in your hands. Envision the negativities rushing out of the stone, allowing the stone to shine clear and bright with it’s new energy. Continue until you feel the visualization is whole and complete. If you are familiar with Reiki or are a practitioner, there are also some reiki practises that are meant to charge up items, such as Jacki Kiri Joka ho - a japanese Reiki technique. Do your research and see what works!
Other Crystals
Some crystals, such as selenite and clear quartz, can act as conductors of energy to charge up others. These super crystals often don’t hold negative energy themselves, so they are perfect to help the clearing and charging process for others. Simply place the crystal you want charged on or around the charging crystal and leave for whatever period of time feels right - overnight should do.
Charging your crystals doesn’t need to be a big, flashy, or complicated process. As long as you have crystals, clarity of the intentions you want charged in them, and a little bit of space - you can do it whenever, wherever!
